Hunger striker dies in Turkey
Another left-wing activist taking part in the long-running hunger strike by prisoners in Turkey is reported to have died. The latest victim - a 29-year-old man Ugur Turkmen - had continued his protest after being freed in January under an amnesty. His death is the 23rd since the prisoners began their campaign last October and hundreds more of them are continuing to refuse solid food. Four relatives have also died in sympathy with the protest which is over government plans to change the way the jails are run. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
