Somali militia group admits attack

A militia faction in Somalia has said it carried out an attack on the town of Wanlaweyn on Sunday in which at least five people were killed.

The attack, 90km (55 miles) north-west of Mogadishu, was beaten back by forces of the interim government.

It was the first time they have clashed with an opposition militiia since coming to power last year.

The faction - called the Rahanweyne Resistance Army - said it had been trying to recapture the town which it says is in its territory.

One of its leaders, Sheikh Aden Mohamad Nouor, told the BBC that it was also trying to re-take two other towns in the Lower Shebelle region and would continue fighting until it had done so.
