New violence in Niger Delta

There has been a new outbreak of ethnic violence in southern Nigeria.

Reports say that at least ten homes were set ablaze in the fighting in Warri, in the Niger Delta, which broke out on Friday and continued on Saturday.

Large numbers of people have been fleeing the area, clutching personal possessions.

Reports say the violence, betwen Urhobos and their Itsekiri neighbours, was sparked off by plans to create a local council in Warri said to be dominated by Itsekiris.
