Second snooker hall victim dies
New Scotland Yard building
Police are considering robbery as a likely motive
A woman who was attacked at a snooker hall in south-west London a week ago has died in hospital.

Amanda Clarke, 32, was attacked at the Players Snooker Club in Wandsworth.

The club's manageress, 42-year-old Anne Cypher, died in the attack, which police have described as "very, very savage".

The mother-of-three suffered a fractured skull after being repeatedly hit with a blunt instrument.

Ms Clarke, who leaves two sons aged 12 and 14, was found in the foyer of the club where she was a member early last Sunday.

She was taken to hospital where she was in a critical condition, but police said she died early on Saturday.

On Tuesday, a suspect in the case, Robert Alleyne, 36, was found hanging from a banister at a friend's home in Southall.

Detective Chief Inspector David Beggs has reiterated an appeal for witnesses.

He said police particularly wanted to hear from a man who turned up at the club at 0400BST last Sunday and has not yet come forward.

Police believe the attack happened between 0500BST and 0900BST, and want to hear from anyone who was at the hall on the night of the incident.

They also want to hear from anyone who may have seen Ms Clarke in Wandsworth High Street just before 0800BST.

Possible robbery

Officers are considering robbery as a likely motive because a float of hundreds of pounds was missing.

There was no sign of forced entry and the club has a tight security system.

The killer caused "considerable damage" to the snooker hall and ensured that the CCTV system was broken to try to cover his tracks, Mr Beggs said.

Police had been alerted after staff arriving for work were unable to gain entry and saw a body lying on the floor through the club letterbox.

Anyone with information should phone the incident room on 020 8284 7610 or CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
