School damaged by vandals

A primary school in County Londonderry has been targeted by vandals.

Beer bottles, cans and glasses were thrown through the windows of Dungiven Primary School at Chapel Road in the town.

The attack happened on Friday night and has left classrooms littered with broken glass.

The school has been the subjected to previous attacks by vandals in the town.

It is not sectarian. It is out and out vandalism. It is pure badness

School principal
The school's principal, Jeff Madden, said he believed the attack was carried out by local teenagers who may have been drinking in the grounds of the school.

"It is not sectarian. It is out and out vandalism. It is pure badness," he said.

He said it was hard enough to balance school budgets without having to pay to repair vandalism.

"The money comes out of my budget and when you are trying to deliver a curriculum for all the children every single penny is vital.

"The damage that has been caused here today is something we could well have done without."
