Kenyan president talks with Somali leaders

The Kenyan President, Daniel arap Moi, has held talks with a delegation of Somali officials to discuss ways of achieving peace and reconciliation in Somalia.

President Moi said Kenya would do what it could to help the process and said he would convene a meeting of all Somali leaders in consultation with Ethiopia and Djibouti.

He urged the Somali officials to work together to determine the type of government which would best suit the country.

The President said instability in Somalia had been detrimental to Kenya, leading to an influx of refugees and illegal weapons. Last week, President Moi met the President of the transitional government set up by a number of Somali factions, Abdulkassim Salat Hasan, saying he would play the part of a neutral in the Somali peace process.
