Soldier dies after road accident

A Scottish soldier has died after a road accident in Northern Ireland.

Stewart George Wells, 21, from Glasgow was a soldier in the Royal Highland Fusiliers.

He died after an accident in County Antrim on Friday in which a number of other people were injured.

The accident happened at Moira Road in Glenavy at about 1215 BST.

It is thought a transit van, an articulated lorry, and a box-type van were in collision.

Mr Wells was a passenger in the transit van.

An army spokesman at Thiepval Barracks in Lisburn, County Antrim, said he died at the scene of the crash.

The police in Antrim are appealing for anyone who saw the accident to contact them.
