We are now more than halfway through the campaign and it's all downhill from here. Hasn't it lashed you into a frenzy (albeit synthetic) of enthusiasm and excitement?

But frankly isn't it all a bit strung out? Are there going to be any surprises? Has anybody said anything that came to you as a shock?

The election campaign is about a month long - but does it need to be in this age of 24-hour-news and endless streams of information pumped at you whether you like it or not?

The duration of the campaign is suited to Mr Gladstone getting on a train to Midlothian, and the need to fill municipal halls to the rafters.

Roy Greenslade, media commentator and former Fleet Street editor thinks its all unnecessarily drawn out.

Political author Ian Dale says the majesty of democracy needs to be played out.
