Lord Mayor's Show in Belfast
Lord Mayor's Parade 01
Thousands of people lined the streets of Belfast for the parade
Thousands of people have lined the streets of Belfast to watch the annual Lord Mayor's parade.

The carnival, which has been running for 45 years, took a new route this year.

The festivities began at 1300 BST on Saturday, at the Odyssey Complex, from where revellers headed for the Cathedral Quarter and then into the commercial heart of Belfast, via High Street, Royal Avenue and Donegall Place.

The parade, which is organised by the Belfast Junior Chamber of Commerce, finished at Saint George's Market at about 1430 BST.

Frank Bryan of the Junior Chamber of Commerce said the idea was to link modern Belfast, in the shape of the Odyssey Complex, with old Belfast, in the shape of Saint George's Market.

As well as featuring around 50 floats, the show included members of the Belfast Giants ice hockey team, dancers and Belfast Circus performers.
