Man killed in shooting

Police have launched a murder inquiry into the death
A man has been killed and a woman injured after a shooting in Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan.

The man was found dead in a flat on Whiteledge Road in the Bryn area shortly after 0300BST on Friday morning.

Police say they are treating the death as suspicious and have launched a major investigation.

The woman is not thought to have life-threatening injuries.

Officers are carrying out a search of the flat
Murder squad detectives have confirmed the man died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Scenes of crime officers are at the premises to carry out a search for clues.

A Home Office pathologist is due to carry out a post mortem examination on the body, after which the police are likely to release more details.
