Uzbekistan meat import ban

Uzbekistan has has banned the import of meat and all meat products from neighbouring states following concerns over the spread of foot and mouth disease.

All livestock in border regions is also being vaccinated against the disease.

A similar programme is operating in Russia's border regions with Mongolia where an outbreak of the disease has been reported.

The Uzbek authorities say the country has been free of the disease since 1989.
