New Seoul airport opens for business
South Korea's new international airport, officially inaugurated last week by President Kim Dae Jung, has opened to commercial flights. The first plane to land at Inchon was a flight from Bangkok carrying nearly two-hundred-and-fifty passengers. Despite previous glitches in the baggage handling system, which had prompted suggestions that the opening be delayed, no trouble was reported. The government is hoping that the new airport, the largest endeavour in Korean history, will become a regional hub. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
