London faces standstill from tube strike

Millions of commuters in London are being urged to walk to work tomorrow/today THURSDAY because of a strike by London Underground workers.

The dispute is over a long-running row over pay and conditions, and is the second to hit the capital in as many months. The British government is also facing a legal challenge by the Mayor of London over its plans to privatise the ageing underground system. A BBC Correspondent says few of the three million people who use the tube every day do so with much pleasure.

The system is notoriously crowded and unreliable.

But when it's not available, they do miss it.

Last time tube workers went on strike London was brought to a virtual halt.
