The kitchen block was completely destroyed
The kitchen block was completely destroyed
Soldiers at the Drumadd army barracks in County Armagh have escaped injury after a commercial chip pan caught fire in the kitchens.

Ten fire appliances dealt with the blaze which destroyed the camp's kitchens and dining area on Wednesday afternoon.

It started at about 1330 BST in a commercial chip pan containing a large quantity of oil.

The Fire Service praised army cooks for quickly disconnecting the gas supply before the blaze spread.

They managed to contain it before it spread to an accommodation block beside the kitchen.

The block was evacuated while the blaze was brought under control.
