My Fair Lady set for sell-out

My Fair Lady has received rave reviews

Advance ticket sales for the production of My Fair Lady starring Martine McCutcheon have topped the £4.5m mark.

The musical is currently running at the National Theatre in London but is due to transfer to its original home at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in the capital's West End.

The Sir Cameron Mackintosh production does not change venue until 21 July but interest in the show has fuelled sales.

McCutcheon has had to pull out of the show after suffering with a sore throat but she is expected to return soon.

Understudy Alexandra Jay has been playing to packed houses and rave reviews in the actress' absence.

The Theatre Royal box office only opened recently, but Sir Cameron believes that at the rate they are going they could sell out within weeks.

He first staged the show there in 1979.

The run at the National is already sold out until its closing night in June.

The show also stars Jonathan Pryce as Professor Henry Higgins and Dennis Waterman as Alfred P Doolittle.

All three principal characters will transfer to the Theatre Royal.
