Miss Congeniality charms UK

Miss Congeniality, starring Sandra Bullock, has
steamed into the UK cinema chart at number one, taking £1.87m at the box office in its first weekend.
In the comedy, Bullock plays an unkempt FBI agent who goes undercover at a beauty pageant It has received mixed critical reviews but nonetheless topped the charts in seven countries, including the US.
World War II drama Enemy At The Gates dropped into second place with takings of £632,741 in its second weekend. The film stars Jude Law as a Russian soldier pitted against a Nazi sniper played by Ed Harris. Oscar-nominated movie Chocolat, adapted from the book by Joanne Harris, dropped to third place in its fourth week, taking £529,520. Robert de Niro's latest film 15 Minutes opened at number four with takings of £499,209. The film sees De Niro play a media-wise police officer involved in a murder plot.
Supernatural thriller The Gift, starring Cate Blanchett, dropped one place to number five. But Oscar-winning drug drama Traffic rose six places to number six despite several weeks in the charts. The film from Steven Soderbergh, winner of the best director Oscar, has made a total of £7m in nine weeks. Traffic missed out on the best picture award but, as well as the best director award, the film's Benicio Del Toro picked up best supporting actor.
