Rebels kill 12 in Uganda -- police

Reports from Uganda say eleven people have been killed in an attack by gunmen on a minivan carrying a party of students through the Murchison Falls national park.

Those killed were nine students, the director of their catering institute in Kampala, and a park ranger escorting the party.

Two other students were badly wounded.

The attack took place near Pakuba, in north-western Uganda.

Police have blamed suspected members of the Lords Resistance Army, which is led by a man claiming supernatural powers and operates from bases in southern Sudan.
