Zimbabwe tightens citizenship rules
The government in Zimbabwe has published a new law tightening the rules against dual citizenship. The change means Zimbabweans entitled to a foreign passport will be stripped of their Zimbabwean citizenship if they do not tell the other country within six months that they are renouncing their entitlement. Previously they had to renounce it only to the Zimbabwe authorities. The main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change, said the move was aimed at the country's white minority and was designed to reduce the amount of support for the opposition ahead of next year's presidential election.
