Guinea Bissau's PM names government

The new Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Faustino Imbali, has named a new government.

The appointments include a woman, Antonieta Rosa Gomes, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and a career soldier, Major Lucio Soares, as Defence Minister.

Mr Imbali who was last week appointed to head the government by President Kumba Yalla following the sacking of his predecessor has promised to concentrate on resolving the instability that has plagued Guinea Bissau since an army mutiny and a military coup in 1998 and 1999.

The new government includes some opposition figures, despite the fact that the main opposition parties have criticised Mr Imbali and refused to join his cabinet.
