Seven people have been killed in a militant suicide raid on a police camp in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The dead included four policemen, two militants and a civilian.

Three militants, dressed in police uniforms, forced their way into the camp belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force, in the capital Srinagar.

The camp was cordoned off by the security forces who launched an operation to flush out the militants.

They shot dead two militants while reports say the third escaped. One civilian was killed in the crossfire.

The Lashkar-e-Toyeba militant group says it carried out the attack.

Militant groups frequently target the security forces in such "suicide" raids - and the violence comes despite an Indian ceasefire which has been in place since November.

Koran tension

Earlier, a curfew was reimposed in a town in Indian-administered Kashmir amid tension over the burning of a Koran last week.

Authorities in the town of Baramullah said the move followed fresh clashes between police and slogan-chanting protesters.

Police fired in the air and deployed teargas to disperse the demonstrators, who were said to be shouting slogans demanding Kashmiri independence.

The town has been under curfew since Friday when one person was killed when police opened fire during a demonstration by local Muslims.

Muslim groups have been protesting against the burning of the Muslim holy book, the Koran, in the northern state of Punjab last week.

Separate clash

In a separate incident, an Indian soldier and two separatist militants were said to have been killed in a clash at Pulwama, about 30km from Srinagar.

Police said a member of the Indian Border Security Force died when separatist militants fired on a search party in a village in the area.

The Indian soldiers returned fire, reportedly killing two militants belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group.
