Flooding and travel chaos in France

Residents of western and northern France are facing further flooding after more heavy rain.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from their homes in Brittany and Normandy as rivers burst their banks submerging roads, railways and fields.

In the capital, Paris, roads along the River Seine remained deep under water and central parts of the city Ile de la Cite were flooded. Although more rain is forecast, the flooding is easing around Lyon and along the River Rhone. Meanwhile, forty major towns and cities across the country face travel chaos today Monday as transport workers strike over the right to retire at the age of fifty-five.
