Haitian opposition leader in hiding
The leader of the opposition in Haiti, Gerard Gorgue, has gone into hiding after the Senate passed a unanimous resolution calling for his arrest. Mr Gorgue -- a seventy-five year old schoomaster -- declared himself president of what he called Haiti's alternative government -- a claim which provoked calls for him to be charged with subversion, as well as rioting from militant supporters of President Arisitide. The parliamentary elections in Haiti last year gave Mr Arisitide's Lavalas Family party a majority but the opposition says they were rigged. They are calling for a rerun of the election.
