The officer has been suspended from duty
A police inspector has been suspended from duty after alcohol due to be used as court evidence was allegedly found in his car.

Inspector Gordon McLanaghan, 41, from Prestwick, Ayrshire, is understood to be under investigation after his car was searched outside Ayr police station, where he is based.

It is alleged that cans of lager were found which were due to be used as production evidence in a forthcoming court case.

The alcohol was allegedly found in the boot of his car during a routine audit.
