Sex workers want anti-trafficking measures

A meeting of several thousand sex workers has ended in Calcutta with a call to combat the trafficking of vulnerable women.

Organisers said a network would be set up to prevent women from India and other Asian countries being targetted by tafficking gangs.

The meeting was extended into a fourth day after attracting 30,000 visitors, and included exhibitions and seminars on the plight of sex workers in various countries.

The large gathering of sex workers attracted strong criticism from many in West Bengal, concerned over the number of minors in the business and its role in the spread of AIDS.
