British Museum displays African art

One of the finest collections of African art has gone on public display at the British Museum in London, with the opening of its newly-restored African galleries.

The collection is made up of works from across the continent and spans more than five centuries, from the ancient kingdoms of Asante and Benin to contemporary artists.

The six-hundred works displayed include some controversial items such as the Benin bronzes, which were seized by the British a century ago and are the focus of long-standing demands for their return.
