Ecuador worried about Plan Colombia
The foreign minister of Ecuador, Heinz Moeller, says his country needs additional assistance if it's going to stop Colombia's drug war from spreading across the border. Speaking to reporters in Washington, Mr Moeller said that the US-backed 'Plan Colombia' campaign could regionalize the country's guerrilla conflict. He said Ecuador needed more military equipment and logistical support to patrol its border with Colombia, as well as money to develop the region. Several of Colombia's neighbours have expressed their worries that efforts to eradicate its drug production could drive the country's drug-related violence across the borders.
