Israeli troops shoot Palestinian in Gaza

The Israeli army says its soldiers have shot dead a Palestinian man on a road in the Gaza Strip.

An army statement said troops opened fire on the man after they saw him placing a device along the route.

The incident occurred near the Netzarim junction -- the scene of frequent clashes during the past five months of Israeli-Palestinian violence.

Palestinian security forces have confirmed seeing a body near the junction.
