Iraq may have chemical weapons

A new assessment by the United Nations suggests Iraq still has chemical and biological weapons - as well as the rockets to deliver them to targets in other countries.

The UN document says Iraq may have hidden a number of Scud missiles, as well as launchers and stocks of fuel.

It says hundreds of artillery shells containing mustard gas are unaccounted for and Baghdad could have more spores of the anthrax disease than previously thought.

The document was prepared by the UN weapons inspection commission UNMOVIC which has been refused access to Iraq for more than a year.

The commission is investigating the possibility of making greater use of satellite surveillance to do its work.
