UN appeals for Kenya aid

The United Nations has appealed for ninety million dollars to help drought victims in Kenya.

The World Food Programme said supplies for up to four million Kenyans at risk would run out in the next two months unless more help is pledged.

The WFP made the appeal despite the arrival of thirty four thousand tons of maize corn from the United States and the expected donation of nineteen thousand tons from Japan.

Hopes for an improvement were dashed when last year's rains came late, and were insufficient to alleviate the prevailing drought.
