South Korea protest over layoffs
Riot police in the South Korean capital, Seoul, have clashed with about a thousand students and workers protesting against layoffs at the troubled Daewoo Motor company. The students, who threw petrol bombs and stones, also demanded the abolition of the National Security Law, which bans pro-communist activities. The police quickly broke up the protest and there were no immediate reports of any serious injuries. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
