In pictures: Earthquake in Seattle
Seattle and the state of Washington was rocked by an earthquake which left thousands without power and caused serious damage to buildings across the region.
![]() Masonry came crashing down across the city
![]() People had to run for their lives
![]() Thousands thronged immediately into the streets
![]() Some took the chance for a picture in unusual surroundings
![]() Telephones were still working but many services were cut off
![]() The Alaska Way Viaduct and Colman ferry dock were closed for inspection
![]() Commercial damage also suffered considerable damage
![]() Gaping holes punctured beautiful façades
