Argentine judge resigns following corruption allegations

A federal judge in Argentina, who's been under fire over his handling of a probe into a bribery scandal in congress, has resigned.

The judge, Carlos Liporaci, stepped down after it emerged he was himself under investigation for corruption.

His failure to bring anyone to justice over a bribes-for-votes scandal in the Argentine senate had been sharply criticised.

He denies any wrongdoing and has claimed he is the victim of a conspiracy.

The scandal shook the government and led to the resignation of the vice-president, Carlos Alvarez.
