Spain seizes Angola-bound arms

Officials in Spain say they have seized more than six-hundred tonnes of arms aboard a ship bound for Angola.

The arms and explosives which included grenade launchers, mortar shells and night-vision equipment were aboard a Georgian-registered ship, Anastasia, which was impounded in the Canary islands on Saturday.

The crew is being held on board while investigations continue.

Correspondents say Angola is considered a sensitive destination for arms as the UNITA rebel group which has been fighting Angolan government troops for decades, is under United Nations arms embargo.
