Iranian opposition arrested in LA

The authorities in the United States have arrested seven men believed to be members of the main Iranian opposition group Mujaheddin el-Khalq.

FBI officials told a news conference the men were detained in the Los Angeles area for soliciting thousands of dollars from travellers arriving at the city's international airport.

The FBI said the group told donors that the money was to be spent on humanitarian aid for Iran but was used to buy arms instead.

Mujaheddin el-Khalq has carried out several attacks in Iran in recent months as part of a campaign to overthrow the Islamic Republic.
