Bulgaria opens ex-spies files
The Bulgarian parliament has approved legislation to make public the files of all agents of the Communist-era secret service. The new law requires the names of former spies to be posted in public places and on the Internet. It has been introduced ahead of a general election in June and means that the records of all candidates standing in the election will be revealed. Critics of the law say the files could have been falsified since the collapse of communist rule eleven years ago. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
