Iraq lifts Polish trade boycott

Iraq says it's lifting a ban on trade with Poland which was imposed after a government adviser appeared to express support for the recent bombing raids near Baghdad.

The Trade Minister, Mohammad Mehdi Saleh, said the Polish government had now rectified its stand on the attacks.

The ban followed remarks by a senior foreign policy adviser who described the attacks by US and British aircraft as understandable.

Although he qualified his remarks as private, Iraq interpreted them as Poland's official position. The official, Marek Nowakovski, was dismissed from his post last week.

Iraq also severed trade links with Canada over the raids.
