Boxer tagged after assault
Boxer Herbie Hide
Herbie Hide was convicted of a nightclub assault
Boxer Herbie Hide has been told he must wear an electronic tag after being convicted of a nightclub assault.

The former world heavyweight champion was ordered to wear the tag until June, at Norwich Magistrates' Court.

Hide must now appear before the Southern Area Council of the British Board of Boxing Control on 7 March when members will consider what disciplinary action to take.

He was suspended by the council following the nightclub attack.

The boxing authorities will also decide whether Hide can fight while wearing the tag, which allows courts to monitor movements.

The 29-year-old must stay indoors between 1100 and 1300 and 1800 and 0200 every day until 28 June, under the terms of the ruling by District Judge Patrick Heley.

The boxer was ordered to pay £250 compensation and £329 costs.

Hide, of Bawburgh, Norfolk, had denied punching and kicking civil servant Ray Boateng at Icon nightclub in Norwich last May.

Hide's lawyer, Graham Platt, said after the hearing that the boxer maintained his innocence and would be appealing against his conviction.

Mr Boateng, 31, of South Ockendon, Essex, said Hide punched him three times around the back of the head then kicked him as he lay on the dance floor.

The boxer said he tried to help Mr Boateng to his feet after he stumbled.
