Up to 15 die in train collision

As many as 15 people are feared to have died in a collision between an intercity passenger train and a freight train near Selby, North Yorkshire. A further 150 are feared to be injured, with dozens still trapped. The accident happened at around 0620GMT at Great Heck between Goole and Selby, north Yorkshire, on the East Coast main line. A Landrover is understood to have left a bridge on the M62 motorway at Great Heck. It was then hit by a passenger train, the York to London King's Cross service, which was in turn hit by a goods train carrying coal. It has been described by a Railtrack spokesman as a major tragic incident.
