Friends star Matthew Perry has entered a rehabilitation clinic for treatment for an undisclosed condition.

His spokeswoman has confirmed he has gone into hospital but has refused to comment on what he is being treated for.

Publicist Lisa Kasteler said: "Following the advice of his doctors, Matthew Perry has entered an undisclosed rehabilitation hospital.

"Matthew has every intention of completing his treatment so that he can continue his dream of entertaining people and making them laugh."

Hard living

In 1997, he entered a rehabilitation clinic for what was described as "early stages of chemical dependency".

It was reported he had become addicted to painkillers following problems with his wisdom teeth.

Last year he admitted he had lost 20lbs through pancreatitis caused by "hard living and drinking hard and eating poorly", but vowed to clean up his life.

Days after leaving the Cedars-Sinai medical centre in Los Angeles, where he was treated for the stomach illness, he crashed his Porsche into his house.

Investigators said Perry was not under the influence of drink or drugs at the time of the smash.
