Eight wounded in Lahore blast

At least eight people have been injured in Pakistan after a bomb exploded in a crowded market in the Punjab capital, Lahore.

Police say an explosive device hidden behind a vending cart went off near the railway station.

No one claimed responsibility for the explosion, which took place as nationwide security precautions were launched ahead of the planned execution on Wednesday of a radical Sunni Muslim activist in central Punjab. Haq Nawaz of the militant Sunni group, Sipah-i-Sahaba, was sentenced to death for the murder of an Iranian diplomat in Lahore ten years ago.
