FARC criticised for gas cylinder bombing

The Colombian government has sharply criticised rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, for using gas cylinder bombs in an attack over the weekend.

The interior minister, Humberto de la Calle, accused the FARC of failing to keep an undertaking given earlier this month to exclude such devices from their military campaign.

Two policemen were killed and a number of buildings were destroyed when the FARC attacked the town of San Antonio in southwestern Colombia late on Friday. On Monday, the United States State Department also criticised the FARC for targetting civilians through kidnappings and killings in violation of international human rights law.
