Mystery fever in India

More than 30 people have died in a mysterious fever in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Officials say the state's second largest city, Siliguri, has been gripped by panic following the outbreak of the disease earlier this month.

Those fleeing the city include doctors and nurses after some of them died treating patients.

Doctors say they are unable to diagnose the cause of the fever, which shows symptoms resembling Japanese encephalitis.

Victims are affected by a variety of ailments, including headaches and acute pain in armpits, before they collapse.

Specialists from India's leading institutes have been flown to Siliguri. Blood samples have also been sent to laboratories in the United States.
