Sri Lanka win test amid protests
CRICKET: Sri Lanka, hosting its first ever test series against England, has won the opening encounter by an innings and twenty-eight runs. When the fifth and final day began, England needed ninety-nine runs to force a second innings from the home team at Galle. But Sri Lanka, who declared their first innings at four-hundred-and-seventy for five, dismissed the visitors after lunch for just seventy-one. The match attracted the attention of anti-Tamil demonstrators, who marched outside the ground demanding that the British government include Tamil guerrilla organisations in new anti-terrorism laws which ban activities of some overseas groups in Britain.
