Train disaster
The latest tragedy on Britain's railways happened early on Wednesday in North Yorkshire, England. Thirteen people lost their lives and 70 were injured in a freak accident involving two trains and a runaway car. The impact of the collision was devastating.
A Taj too much
Viva Cambodia
A small border town in Cambodia is pushing to become the Las Vegas of East Asia. For years it has been fought over by government forces and Khmer Rouge rebels. But now it is attracting foreign investors, mainly from neighbouring Thailand, who are pouring tens of millions of dollars into building casinos.
Mozambique flood alert
A year after much of Mozambique was devastated by flooding the waters have returned. The country's government is desperately trying to evacuate the flood plain as it prepares to release water from reservoirs which are overflowing.
Earthquake in Seattle
An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale shakes the Seattle area of the United States, and is followed by aftershocks on the same fault line as the earlier tremor.
Lights, camera, action
Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital, does not rate with Hollywood or Bombay as a city with a world famous film industry. But that has not hindered the growth of a vibrant movie industry, striving to overcome the odds.
Miracle baby
Doctors in Canada are calling it 'a miracle'. A 13-month-old baby who wandered out into the night in temperatures of minus-26 celsius wearing only a nappy was found hours later, lying in the snow. She is recovering well from her ordeal.
