Crews tackle huge blaze
Motherwell fire
Residents were evacuated after the alarm was raised
Up to 100 firefighters have called to deal with a huge blaze in a complex of buildings in Motherwell.

About a dozen people in neighbouring flats had to be evacuated after the fire started in Dalziel Street, in a range of two, three and four-storey buildings.

Strathclyde Fire Brigade said the fire - during the early hours of Monday morning - was centred on a nightclub and gym premises set within traditional brick buildings.

There were no casualties, according to the fire brigade.

The emergency services received more than a dozen calls to go to the scene.

Officers were expecting to remain at the scene for the next 48 hours.

Firefighters from 12 stations, including Hamilton and Cumbernauld, helped to douse the flames.

Spokesman for the brigade, divisional officer John Walker, said: "The fire is now under control but it is too early to say what has been the cause.

"Firefighters are expected to be at the scene for the next two days."
