New elections deaths in Yemen

Another six people have been killed in continuing violence surrounding local elections in Yemen.

Disputes over the counting of votes in the province of Ibb, south of the capital, Sana'a, led to shooting incidents in which the latest victims died.

Three were police officers and three members of the opposition Islah party.

This brings to twenty-nine the number of people killed in election violence.

As well voting for new municipal councillors, Yemenis have voted in a referendum on proposed constitutional amendments.

These include a proposal to extend the president's term of office from five years to seven, and the creation of an appointed body which some critics fear will undermine the elected parliament.
