Turkey looks for billion dollar loan

The Turkish Prime Minister, Bulent Ecevit, has confirmed that his government is looking for twenty-five-billion dollars in loans to help it overcome the current financial crisis.

It's not clear where money for the loan would come from, although some reports have suggested that a consortium of international banks could be involved.

Mr Ecevit was speaking after state banking authorities seized control of a small Turkish bank which was in financial trouble.

Instability in the Turkish banking system is continuing to cause concern, as the government and International Monetary Fund try to formulate a new economic policy.
