A man has been charged in connection with a series of letter bomb attacks against the animal industry.

Glynn Harding, 26, from Crewe, Cheshire, has been charged with 15 offences under the Offences Against the Person Act, North Yorkshire police said.

He was remanded in custody at Macclesfield Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.

He spoke only to confirm his name and address and will appear again on 6 March at Chester Crown Court.

A 31-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, also from the Crewe area, have been released without charge.

The trio were arrested on Wednesday following an investigation involving five police forces.

Joint investigation

Their combined investigations were stepped up after a parcel - which contained nails - exploded at a fish and chip shop in the North Wales town of Holywell.

A six-year-old girl from Congleton, Cheshire, suffered leg injuries when she opened a package addressed to her father.

Detectives also investigated an alleged letter bombing that injured a 58-year-old sheep farmer near Ripon.

Another alleged incident saw a woman taken to hospital after a device exploded as she opened mail delivered to a livestock auction firm in East Yorkshire.
