Demonstration at Nigerian parliament
Police in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, have used tear gas to break up a protest outside the parliament building by people from the oil-producing Niger Delta region. Around five-thousand protesters managed to reach the main gate before being beaten back. Four people are reported to have been injured in the clashes. The demonstrators say the Niger Delta region hasn't benefitted from the oil wealth produced there. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
