No aid for some quake victims

Aid workers in the Indian province of Gujarat have warned that almost a month after the devastating earthquake there, some communities have received no aid.

A spokesman for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Bob McKerrow, said several villages in the worst hit area, Bhuj, had received no tents; and that even the most basic materials had failed to get through.

He said that although the state government had done good work in coordinating aid efforts, the magnitude of the disaster had made comprehensive assessments difficult. Officials say shelter has been the biggest worry for the relief operation.
